With European charm, the Victorian-era exterior of The Distillery Historic District sets the tone for a celebration of a romantic traditional Christmas at The Toronto Christmas Market. Inspired by the sparkling holiday markets of the Old Continent, this annual event in the city captures the essence and wonder of this magical time of year. The distinctive red-brick buildings with their wonderful green window frames and doors are accompanied by charming little wooden booths beautifully decorated with lights and evergreens. Local craftspeople, artists and artisans with their unique art products evoke memories of times when Christmas treats were made with care and love at home, and the toys under the tree were skillfully crafted by hand. A picture with Santa or in front of the majestic 45 foot White Spruce, a cup of holiday eggnog, a bite of chocolate-covered bacon or traditional German schnitzel, or a ride on the Merry-go-round (even in a cold winter day) reawakens the childlike heart inside of you. Singing the words of treasured Christmas carols together with carollers in a Victorian style Charles Dickens costumes helps you spread goodwill and Yuletide cheer. A sip of fragrant mulled wine in a garden heated by roaring wood fire in an outside pit makes it easier to brave the winter cold...
And if you are lucky enough to visit the market while the enchanting Christmas atmosphere is enhanced by the perfect winter snow gently falling ( as we did), you definitely will witness how the warm, nostalgic illustrations of your beloved Christmas story come alive...
