I don't know if I am a nurturer (according to a psychology test I took recently) , but I do love organic vegetables, golden retrievers (OK, chocolate Labradors precisely), wood fires, unique handmade clothing ...
I do love the smell of bread baked in an oven and adore throwing parties in my kitchen.
I am crazy for all of my mom's pies and her strong espresso.
I do love walking through the autumn woods and collecting "treasures" the way squirrels gather nuts.
My main source of inspiration has always been NATURE
and
yes, maybe Autumn is my season and " best suits my personality "
and my decorating style -
warm neutrals, earthy colors.
BUT
BUT
there seems to be something profoundly different about hitting the autumn of our years .
I am not thinking about the sense of accomplishment and the peak of our years, but rather the liberation of some of the pesky baggage of youth, the elimination of the petty of our experience, the spiritual balance and relatively stable emotional well-being, the lack of personal vanity and care about what others think. As I grow I learn more and" if I stayed at twenty - two I'd always be as ignorant as I was at twenty -two ".
Yes, maybe Autumn is my season.
I am getting sentimental. Our home is full of cherished collections and photographs, not only family photos (some printed in sepia for a vintage look), but all sort of old pictures of places I have been and people I don't even know. I want the home we breathe in to be simple and to reflect us. Here life is lived in affable surrounding that provide a place of cozy relaxation, of gathering together on good company, of pausing with an interesting book, of sinking into natural comfort and of finding ourselves considering just how blessed we are.
Yes, Autumn is my season.
As I grow, I see renewed possibilities about the future. And it's absolutely true that "autumn is a hopeful time: it reminds us that this year's harvest was last year's seed ."
I recently painted this old , really old trunk in white and I am happy with the outcome. |
These pretty leaves are small seasonal touches to the old vintage photos . |
In some way Professor Morrie's words comes to mind:
" The truth is, part of me is every age, I am a three-year old, I am a five-year old, I am a thirty-seven- year-old. I am a fifty-year-old. I've been through all of them, and I know what it's like. I delight in being a child when it's appropriate to be a child. I delight in being a wise old man when it's appropriate to be a wise old man. Think of all I can be! I am every age, up to my own ...

How can I be envious of where you are ----- when I've been there myself?"
May this season be a special one for you !

Wonderful photos as ALWAYS but I think I most love the sense of nostalgia in this post. I too think Autumn is by far the most sentimental and often most romantic time of the year and you capture those qualities beautifully.
